Alistair Verth is a Senior Pipeline Corrosion Engineer with 10 years’ experience designing, installing and auditing cathodic protection systems, particularly those on long steel pipelines.
Tom Amrein, Principal Engineer - Pipelines
Jemena Gas Networks
Tom is an experienced pipeline engineer with proven capability in managing high risk assets in a regulated environment. He has a comprehensive knowledge of pipeline design, construction, operation and maintenance that has been developed through more than 15 years working for pipeline operators and contractors.
Tom has been actively involved in the development of Australian Standards for pipelines for more than 10 years, recently appointed chair of the ME-38.3 Sub-Committee.
One of the first Chartered Professional (Oil and Gas Pipeline) Engineers in Australia, she follows a passion to promote high quality engineering education and professional development as a member of the National Engineering Registration Board Assessment Panel for Oil and Gas Pipeline Engineers.
Ian McCabe
Superintendent Lands
Iain is Superintendent Lands at Australian Gas Infrastructure Group. He leads the Transmission Operations Lands team within the Facilities department and their portfolio includes external stakeholder engagement, third party works management and the surveillance program. Iain has been working with DBP/AGIG since 2011, having migrated to Western Australia from Glasgow, Scotland in 2008. He has led the Lands team since 2016 and has a background in compliance. His passion is golf and like most players, has a love hate relationship with it.
John Martin
Engineering Support Manager - Gas Distribution
John Martin is the Engineering Support Manager for Jemena Gas Distribution (NSW & ACT). John is a result-oriented engineering professional with more than 30 years of experience in diverse fields ranging from asset management of natural gas utility assets to Aerospace and Land Defence Assets. Major strengths in utility strategic planning and asset management with particular focus on operational support to AS2885 & AS4645 assets.
John over the past years has chaired a number of committees, including Jemena’s Encroachment Working Group which was established to mitigate a growing increase in third party encroachments leading to Type B incidents.
John has recently been appointed as the APGA Pipeline Operator Group Chairman.
Michael Jarosz
Principal Pipeline Engineer
SEA Gas
Michael has over 15 years experience in the oil and gas pipeline industry with both SEA Gas and the SA technical regulator. He is a chartered mechanical and oil and gas pipeline engineer and a member of both the ME38.1 and ME38.3 Australian Standard sub-committees. He also holds an AMPP (formerly NACE) CP2 (technician) certificate.
Michael’s technical experience is in pipeline integrity and risk assessment, with a focus on cathodic protection and corrosion mitigation, pipeline inspection, assessment and repair as well as pipeline corridor management. He was a key contributor to SEA Gas being awarded the 2022 APGA Safety Award for work on Planning Policy Changes in South Australia pertaining to development around high-pressure gas pipelines.
Alana O'Connor
Solutions Architect, Mipela
As a Solution Architect Alana is responsible for the planning and delivery of solutions for Mipela GeoSolution’s Energy and Infrastructure clients. To do this, Alana draws on knowledge from qualifications in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Surveying and User Experience Design as well as experience gained from involvement in the APGA, particularly as a previous SA YPF chair. Using X-Info software, she is able to combine information from different sources to help users streamline processes, simplify workflows and improve outcomes in their daily business.
John Grapiglia
Regional Manager WA
John Grapiglia graduated as an Electronics Engineer in 1980 from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He started work for what was then Telecom (in Melbourne, Australia) in their cable protection section, with the role of protecting the lead sheathed cable network from various forms of damage including stray DC traction currents and lightning. John has been involved in a variety of cathodic protection projects, ranging from onshore pipelines and structures, reinforced concrete structures, and offshore projects. The project locations include Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, UK and Pakistan. John is a AMPP (formerly NACE) CP Specialist and a CP1 & 2 lecturer. He is currently a Principal Engineer and Regional Manager for Corrosion Control Engineering and he is based in Perth.
Harry Evans
Senior Project Engineer, Onshore Developments
Harry Evans is a Senior Project Engineer within the Santos Onshore Development team working on the Moomba CCS Project as the Pipeline lead. Harry has 8 years’ experience in the design and execution of Oil & Gas Pipelines. Harry joined the Moomba CCS Project in the FEED stage of the project in 2020 and has led the pipeline through FEED, detailed design, construction execution and commissioning / operation readiness.
Colin Yeoh
National Team Lead (Pipeline Projects): 5 years with APA with a focus on building, developing and supporting teams to plan and deliver a range of projects, including In-line inspections, excavations/repairs and modifications of APAs existing pipeline assets. Previous experience in owner and consultant roles includes 7 years as a Project Manager and 7 years as a Mechanical/Piping Engineer across the energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, mining and water sectors.
Matthew Clark
Matthew started his career as an Aerospace Engineer in the Defence industry. He joined APA's Networks business 2014, and in 2016 he was appointed to role of Queensland Networks Operations Manager. In 2021, Matthew joined the APA Pipelines Engineering team and is currently the Team Leader - Integrity.
Andrew Hynes
Head of Facilities
Andrew Hynes is ‘Head of Facilities’ at Australian Gas Infrastructure Group. Andrew has been working on the DBNGP for 34 years and manages the operations and maintenance of the DBNGPs Metro and southern Gate Stations, The Tanami Gas Pipeline in the NT, the easements of the DBNGP & Tanami gas pipeline and AGIG’s HyP SA and soon to be operational HyP Gladstone and HyP Murray Valley.

Adam Herbert is the Services Delivery Manager at Mipela specialising in the delivery of GIS services within Energy and Infrastructure sector. His expertise lies in managing geospatial projects, optimising workflows, and ensuring seamless integration of GIS solutions into client operations. Adam's hands-on approach, combined with his strategic vision, enables him to navigate complex challenges and deliver tailored solutions that address specific client needs.
Mell Greenall

With over 10 years’ experience leading Not for profit industry associations supported by 10 years commercial experience primarily in the energy sector, Mell has supported boards and industry deal with complex change programs, restructures, mergers, and cultural resets to drive growth. Her role as CEO of Before You Dig Australia has seen her lead the merger of 6 state-based entities into a single national organisation in 2022 and the resetting the national strategy to drive digital innovation to meet the user needs of the service. Her focus is now on delivering a revitalised service that links digital data with safety to support Zero Damage – Zero Harm.
