The plenary sessions are at the heart of the APGA Convention & Exhibition, bringing the industry together to step away from day-to-day operations and consider the challenges, opportunities and ideas shaping the future of pipelines and gas.
Across Monday and Tuesday in Darwin, delegates heard from an outstanding group of industry leaders, technical specialists and guest speakers who shared their experience, challenged conventional thinking and provided practical insights from across the sector.
The 2026 program reflected the breadth of the pipeline and gas industry, with presentations and discussions spanning technical innovation, project delivery, operational performance, safety, future energy opportunities and the broader strategic environment in which our industry operates.
Importantly, the plenary program is not simply about presenting information. It provides an opportunity for people from across organisations, disciplines and career stages to hear different perspectives, ask questions and take those conversations back into their own businesses.
A major highlight of this year’s program was hearing from General Sir Peter Cosgrove, whose keynote brought a different perspective to the Convention stage.
Drawing on a career defined by leadership and service, his address focused on the importance of leadership and the different ways it can be demonstrated. He emphasised that we are all leaders, and that leadership is critical in every role, whether through formal responsibility, everyday actions or the way we support and influence others.
It was a valuable opportunity for delegates to consider not only the technical and commercial challenges facing the sector, but also the leadership required to navigate them.
One of the continuing strengths of the APGA Convention is the willingness of industry professionals to openly share their knowledge and experience.
This year’s presenters brought real projects, operational experience, research, emerging technologies and lessons learned to the plenary stage.
That openness is an important part of Convention.
The lessons shared through one presentation can start conversations between organisations, highlight different approaches to common challenges and provide ideas that delegates can take directly back into their workplaces.
The quality of that exchange is only possible because speakers are prepared to invest significant time in preparing their presentations and sharing their experience with the wider industry.

The question-and-answer sessions and panel discussions throughout the program provided another important dimension to the plenary sessions.
They allowed delegates to explore the issues in greater depth, challenge ideas and hear different perspectives from across the industry.
Those conversations do not necessarily end when a session finishes. They continue through the exhibition hall, over lunch, at networking functions and, ultimately, back within member organisations.
That flow of knowledge and discussion is one of the reasons the APGA Convention remains such an important annual gathering for the pipeline and gas sector. The Convention brings together operators, suppliers, contractors, technical specialists, policymakers and emerging professionals in an environment designed to encourage exactly this kind of exchange.
Delivering two days of plenary sessions requires an enormous contribution from many people.
Thank you to every speaker who prepared and delivered a presentation, every session chair who helped guide the discussion, the production and event teams working behind the scenes, and every delegate who participated, asked questions and contributed to the conversations throughout the program.
The quality of a Convention program is ultimately determined by the people willing to share what they know and by an audience willing to engage with it.
In Darwin, we had both.
