Preserving the Pipeline Industry’s Story: A Call for Contributions to the APGA Archive

Written by APGA | Mar 20, 2026 12:31:32 AM

The Australian pipeline industry has a rich and evolving history, shaped by the people, projects and innovations that have enabled it to grow into what it is today. From early infrastructure development through to modern advancements supporting the energy transition, these stories form an important part of our collective identity. However, much of this history is at risk of being lost if it is not actively preserved.

APGA is currently undertaking an initiative to strengthen and expand its archive library, with the aim of capturing and safeguarding materials that reflect the industry’s journey. This includes photographs, video footage, project documentation, event records and other relevant content that provide insight into how the industry has developed over time.

Preserving these materials is not simply about looking back. It is about creating a resource that can inform future generations, support industry learning and provide context for the decisions and innovations that lie ahead. A well-maintained archive allows us to recognise the contributions of individuals and organisations, understand how challenges have been addressed in the past, and build a stronger, more connected industry moving forward.

This initiative is being facilitated by Garry Sharp, who is working closely with members to identify, verify and curate valuable content. As part of this process, Garry may reach out to individuals and organisations to assist in locating historical materials or confirming existing records. Members are encouraged to engage with this process and support the development of a comprehensive and accurate archive.

We are also calling on members to contribute any materials they may have. Whether it is a collection of project photographs, footage from past works, or records from industry events, every contribution adds value. In many cases, these materials are stored away and not widely seen, yet they hold significant importance in telling the full story of our industry.

APGA greatly appreciates the time and effort involved in sharing these materials and acknowledges the role members play in preserving this history. By contributing to the archive, you are helping to ensure that the legacy of the pipeline industry is not only protected, but also accessible and meaningful for years to come.

If you have content to share, or are contacted as part of this initiative, your support will make a lasting impact.
