The future of Australia’s gas infrastructure is green, and today’s landmark Australian Industry Energy Transitions Initiative report reveals how industry and government are working together to limit global warming to 1.5C.
The ‘Pathways to industrial decarbonisation’ report, prepared by Climateworks and CSIRO in consultation with industry and research partners, outlines how through coordinated action between governments and industry, overall emissions could be reduced by up to 92 per cent by 2050 with the remaining eight per cent offset by high-quality carbon credits.
As part of the report, Australian Industry ETI recommends the scale-up and use of green hydrogen in gas networks, with an initial target of 10 per cent hydrogen blending. Additionally, it endorses repurposing existing infrastructure with the goal of launching scaled supply chains that deliver hydrogen and ammonia. We all have a role to play in the energy transition, and the gas infrastructure industry is committed to giving Australian consumers the freedom to choose low-cost, reliable, and decarbonised renewable gases.
