Principles and practices for effective quality assurance procedures/systems for pipeline construction. Recognises the difference between quality assurance and quality control. |
Quality control and assurance processes for all stages pipeline construction: · right of way preparation – clear and grade, fencing, centreline survey · receipt of pipe, materials, consumables and fittings. · pipe storage and handling · location of other services · stringing · bending · trenching · crossings · welding · joint coating · holiday testing and repair. · lowering in and padding · assemblies · thrust support and anchorage · backfill and compaction · hydrotest · drying · clean up and reinstatement · as constructed information. |
Principles and practices for quality control (inspection and testing) procedures for pipeline construction. |
Quality documentation (typical): · inspection and test plans (ITP) · quality management plan(s) · procedures · registers · material data reports (MDR) · project data books (PDB) · field inspection checklists (FIC) · audit reports · test reports · certification and qualification · as-built documentation · redline drawings · material receipts and certificates · document control requirements · photographic records · weld and test and inspection records · equipment calibration records. |

Selection criteria for quality assurance and quality control specialists. |
Experience |
Membership of a construction team with responsibilities of quality assurance and/or quality control/inspection supervised by an experienced engineer for two major or medium pipelines or one small pipeline projects (because breadth of exposure is different). Preparation of a range of the documents listed above (ITPs, MDRs, FICs, etc). Participation in a project audit and responding to audit findings. |
