About APGA

APGA

APGA is the peak body representing Australasia’s pipeline infrastructure.

While many members have a focus on gas transmission they are active in all aspects of the industry including transportation of other products, such as oil, water and slurry. Our members include constructors, owners, operators, advisers, engineering companies and suppliers of pipeline products and services.

Based in Canberra since 1998, APGA has developed a strong presence and profile. APGA manages and promotes an annual Convention and Trade Exhibition as well as a comprehensive program of seminars, lunches and dinners. APGA also promotes the interests of the pipeline industry by providing information through public presentations, social media, feature articles, editorial comment in The Australian Pipeliner and other publications, media releases and newsletters.

An important role for APGA has been its industry research programs and the association has strong working relationships with leading institutions. It was instrumental in the development of the Energy Pipelines CRC and is the major industry partner of the Future Fuels CRC. Research conducted by both of these centres is taken up by the industry, often through incorporation of the results into industry standards and guidelines. One of the most important of these is AS 2885, a Standard APGA's members played a key role in developing and continue to play in updating and maintaining.

APGA’s advocacy role has broadened in response to governments' economic reform policies, changes in the energy sector, emissions policy and future developments such as hydrogen use as a fuel.

APGA’s Objectives:

APGA’s Objectives:

  • To encourage the participation, networking and collaboration of our membership.
  • To maintain, enhance and promote industry expertise, innovation and safety.
  • To be a respected and effective influencer in the Australasian community.
  • To lead and support the industry in delivering positive environment, social and governance outcomes.

History

The association was first established in 1968, primarily as an association representing contractor interests. During the mid-1970s, it was expanded to represent all sectors of the industry. Today, APGA has a diverse membership base with around 400 members including contractors, owners, operators, advisers and engineering companies and suppliers of pipeline products and services.

Until March 2015, the association was known as the Australian Pipeline Industry Association. In 2015, the name was changed to the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) in recognition of the importance of continuing to contribute to gas policy development.

The APGA secretariat now has a staff of seven people who carry out a range of functions on behalf of members including policy and advocacy, assisting in developing the capability of the industry and organising and managing up to 30 events annually.
