APGA Convention and Exhibition Call for Papers

The APGA's Annual Convention serves as a nexus for professionals across the pipeline industry, encompassing sectors associated with energy transportation, emphasising natural gas, water and slurry, as well as advancements in environmental safety and governance. This flagship event facilitates knowledge exchange through comprehensive business sessions, while social gatherings foster extensive networking opportunities.

Convention will be held in Brisbane from the 18th to the 21st of October 2025 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Invitation to submit papers

The Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) invites thought leaders, innovators, and professionals from across the pipeline and energy sectors to submit papers for the 2025 APGA Annual Convention and Exhibition, to be held 18–21 October 2025 at the BCEC.

This premier event serves as a platform to exchange knowledge, spark innovative ideas, and foster meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities shaping the pipeline industry.

Deadline to submit papers is Friday 28 March 2025.

How to Submit a Paper for the APGA 2025 Annual Convention

Are you ready to share your expertise, insights, and ideas with a global audience of pipeline industry leaders?

Step 1: Set Up Your Convention Paper

Your journey begins with defining the focus of your paper. Start by identifying how your expertise aligns with one or more of the convention’s key themes:

  • Future Fuels: Innovations in renewable energy, hydrogen, and the evolving energy landscape.
  • Pipeline Operations: Enhancing efficiency, adopting digital technologies, and improving monitoring capabilities.
  • Construction Techniques: Cutting-edge methodologies, material advancements, and infrastructure innovations.
  • New Developments & Projects: Case studies, project updates, and transformative industry initiatives.
  • Environment, Safety, and Governance: Addressing sustainability, safety challenges, and regulatory advancements.

Think broadly and creatively within these themes. Whether you’re sharing groundbreaking research, real-world applications, or forward-thinking solutions, your paper should provoke thought and inspire meaningful industry discussions.

 

Step 2: Prepare Your Submission Materials

Your submission must include the following:

  1. Paper Title: Craft a clear, engaging title that reflects the essence of your work.
  2. 400-Word Abstract: Write a concise summary of your paper, highlighting the key ideas, findings, and relevance to the pipeline industry.
  3. Keywords (8–10): Identify keywords that reflect the focus of your paper and help it stand out to reviewers.
  4. Author Biographies: Provide a brief (up to 200 words) biography for each author or presenter, outlining relevant experience and achievements.
  5. LinkedIn Profile Links: Include professional LinkedIn profiles to give reviewers additional context on your professional background.
  6. Professional Headshots: Submit high-quality photos for all presenters.
  7. Commitment Statements: Confirm your ability to:
    1. Attend and present in person in Brisbane, 18-21 October 2025
    2. Submit an electronic version of your paper and any additional materials by the 10th of October 2025 deadline.
  8. Permissions
    1. Grant APGA permission to share your final presentation paper through its channels.
    2. Acknowledge that filming and photography may occur during the convention for promotional purposes.

 

Step 3: Submit Online by 28 March 2025

All submissions must be made online via the APGA submission portal. Ensure all required materials are included and double-check for completeness and accuracy before submitting. Please note that late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Step 4: Engage with the Selection Process

If your paper is shortlisted, you may be invited to an interview with the Papers Selection Committee. This is your opportunity to clarify and expand on your work. Final decisions will be communicated by the end of April 2025.

Selection Process for APGA 2025 Convention Papers

The selection of papers for the APGA Annual Convention is a rigorous process designed to uphold the quality and integrity of the event. Submissions will undergo several levels of review to ensure the best ideas, insights, and innovations are presented to the industry.

Step 1: Initial Screening by the APGA Papers Selection Committee

All submitted abstracts and materials will be reviewed for:

  • Alignment with the convention’s themes and topics.
  • Adherence to submission guidelines.
  • Relevance, originality, and potential impact on the pipeline industry.

Submissions that meet the criteria will advance to the next stage.

Step 2: Independent Expert Review

The shortlisted papers will be evaluated by an independent Papers Selection Committee, consisting of industry experts and seasoned professionals from outside the APGA. This committee will assess:

  • Relevance to current and emerging industry challenges.
  • Value of the ideas in driving innovation and industry advancement.

 

Step 3: Board-Level Review

The APGA Board of Directors will conduct a high-level review of the recommendations made by the Papers Selection Committee. The Board’s focus will be on ensuring:

  • Representation of diverse perspectives across the pipeline industry.
  • Balance of topics to provide a comprehensive and engaging program for attendees.

 

Final Selection

The Papers Selection Committee will consolidate feedback from all review stages to finalise the list of accepted papers. Decisions will be based on the overall scoring and alignment with the convention's goals.

Key Dates for the Selection Process

  • 28 March 2025: Submission deadline for all papers.
  • 10 April 2025: Multi-tiered review process, including committee and board reviews.
  • End of April 2025: Notification of acceptance.

Please note:

  • Preference will be given to APGA members in case of similar abstracts.
  • APGA reserves the right to amend paper criteria and exclude any submissions not aligning with the convention's intent.
  • Final paper selection lies with the APGA Papers Selection Committee, with no correspondence entertained.

Speaker Obligations

Presenting at the 2025 APGA Annual Convention is a prestigious opportunity that comes with important responsibilities. To ensure a seamless and professional experience for all attendees, speakers must adhere to the following obligations:

  1. Commitment to Attendance
    1. All presenters must be available to attend the convention in person from 18–21 October 2025 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
    2. Presenters are required to deliver their paper during their allocated slot within the business session program.
    3. Presenters are required to present within this 15-minute allocation, inclusive of any and all mandatory presentations requirements. Followed by 5 minutes of Q&A.
  2. Submission of Materials
    1. Submit an electronic version of your full paper, along with any supporting documentation, no later than Friday 10 October 2025.
    2. Provide final presentation slides (if applicable) by the designated deadline before the convention.
  3. Presentation Standards
    1. Ensure your presentation is engaging, professional, and aligned with the convention’s themes, whilst fitting into the 15-minute allocated time slot.
    2. Papers and presentations must be free from advertorial content or explicit promotion of products or brands.
  4. Collaboration with APGA
    1. Be available for potential interviews or discussions with the Papers Selection Committee if clarification or further detail on your submission is required.
    2. Update your biography, photo, and presentation details as requested to ensure accurate representation in convention materials, both electronic and printed.
  5. Acknowledgement and Permissions
    1. Agree to have your paper shared through APGA channels, including post-convention publications and member resources (archive).
    2. Acknowledge that photography and videography may take place during the convention and may include your presentation for marketing or archival purposes.
  6. Professional Conduct
    1. Represent yourself and your organisation with professionalism and integrity.
    2. Engage with attendees during your session and, where possible, participate in networking opportunities throughout the convention.
