Melbourne brings the industry together for technical insight and connection
The APGA Melbourne Dinner delivered another strong evening of industry connection, conversation and engagement, bringing together professionals from across the pipeline and energy sector.
Melbourne always provides a dynamic setting for APGA events, and this year was no exception. With a broad cross-section of the industry in the room, the evening created plenty of opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, meet new people and continue the conversations that strengthen our industry.
We were pleased to welcome Professor Michael Brear from the University of Melbourne as our keynote speaker.
Michael shared his perspective drawing on his extensive work across energy, industry and government, including his role as Director of the Net Zero Australia Project. His presentation provided valuable context on the energy transition and the challenges and opportunities facing Australia’s energy system.
We sincerely thank Michael for joining us and sharing his insights with the APGA community.
The Dinner also followed the Melbourne Mini Seminar, giving members an opportunity to combine technical learning with an evening of networking and industry engagement.
The seminar featured two practical case studies from APA exploring the technical, operational and stakeholder considerations involved in managing critical pipeline assets.
Merna Sery presented on APA’s T01 Re-Coating Program, highlighting how third-party works can provide an opportunity to inspect, assess and remediate exposed pipeline assets while maintaining safe and reliable operations.
Jay Sahasrabudhe then presented the T16 Webster Street Pipeline Relocation Project, providing insight into the complex relocation of a critical Melbourne gas transmission pipeline as part of the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project.
Together, the presentations demonstrated the importance of strong engineering, planning, risk management and stakeholder coordination when delivering work around live pipeline infrastructure.
