Pipelines Subjected to Geohazards under Static and Seismic Conditions

Pipelines Subjected to Geohazards under Static and Seismic Conditions

APGA, in collaboration with ALim and Associates, is delivering a specialist virtual training course focused on the impact of natural hazards on pipeline design, construction, operation and integrity.

This course provides an in-depth introduction to geohazards affecting pipelines, including flooding, landslides and earthquakes. Participants will explore both qualitative and quantitative approaches to assessing geohazard risk, with particular consideration given to route selection, pipeline vulnerability, integrity management and risk mitigation.

The course will also cover the use of protection and mitigation measures, monitoring techniques and broader risk management approaches. Key disciplines include hydrology, hydraulics, engineering geology, soil mechanics and rock mechanics, with particular emphasis on slope instability and soil-structure interaction.

Given the significance of seismic risk in many regions, the program will also introduce geotechnical earthquake engineering, seismic pipeline design and strain-based design

About the Program

Dates: 30 November to 3 December 2026
Delivery: Virtual, via Microsoft Teams
Format: Four half-day sessions
Cost: AUD $1,950 per attendee, excluding GST

Who should attend

This course is suitable for professionals across the pipeline industry, including managers, pipeline engineers, technicians and other personnel involved in pipeline evaluation, design, construction and operation.

It will also be relevant to engineering consultants working in geotechnical engineering, as well as personnel from authorities or certification bodies involved in pipeline integrity, assessment and licensing.

About the lecturer

Dr Prodromos Psarropoulos is a Structural and Geotechnical Engineer with approximately 25 years of scientific and professional experience in the analysis and design of structures and geostructures.

He completed his PhD in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and has undertaken advanced research in Greece and Italy. His areas of expertise include geotechnics, soil dynamics, earthquake engineering, static and dynamic soil-structure interaction, slope and embankment stability, and numerical simulation of dynamic soil response.

Dr Psarropoulos currently teaches Geotechnical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and has been a leading member of expert teams responsible for quantitative geohazard assessment and seismic design for major high-pressure gas pipeline projects in south-east Europe, including IGI-Poseidon and TAP.

He also regularly delivers specialist industry training on geohazards, earthquake engineering and pipeline design. Nov+Dec 2026 Virtual Training

How the virtual training will run

The course will be delivered through Microsoft Teams across four half-day sessions.

The exact start and finish times for each day are still being finalised. As the course includes international presenters and participants across different Australian locations, the timetable will be structured to accommodate multiple time zones. Each day will be limited to approximately half a day, with confirmed session times provided to registered participants ahead of the course.

Attendance at all scheduled sessions is required. The course will be interactive, with participants encouraged to ask questions, engage with the presenter and work through practical examples during the sessions.

Sessions may be recorded for quality control purposes. A summary of the training will be shared with participants following the course, together with any relevant course materials provided by the presenter.

Registration conditions

Registrations close seven days before the commencement of the course.

Registrations are transferable to another participant. Cancellations received within seven days of the course commencement date are non-refundable.

Your registration covers all four virtual sessions and associated post-course materials.
