20 years - Young Pipeliners Forum
Celebrating 20 years of connection, learning and industry leadership
For 20 years, the Young Pipeliners Forum has helped shape the next generation of people working across Australia’s pipeline and gas industry.
Established in 2006, YPF was created to give young professionals a place to connect, learn, contribute and build the relationships that underpin a strong and collaborative industry. What began as a forum for early-career pipeliners has grown into a national network that continues to support professional development, technical learning and industry connection across Australia and New Zealand.
In 2026, APGA will bring the YPF community together to celebrate this important milestone, reflect on the contribution YPF has made over two decades, and look ahead to the people, capability and leadership the industry will need for the future.

What is the Young Pipeliners Forum?
The Young Pipeliners Forum is APGA’s network for young people involved in the pipeline and gas industry. It provides opportunities for early-career professionals working in APGA member companies to meet, exchange ideas, share information, discuss industry issues and learn from other disciplines across the sector. (APGA)
YPF plays an important role in helping young professionals build confidence, broaden their understanding of the industry and establish the professional relationships that support long-term careers.
Across networking events, technical sessions, mentoring opportunities and state-based activity, YPF has become a practical and visible pathway for young people to become more involved in APGA and the wider pipeline community.
Why we are celebrating 20 years
Milestones matter.
The 20-year celebration is an opportunity to recognise the people who helped establish YPF, the volunteers who have sustained it, the companies that have supported young professionals to participate, and the many individuals who have gone on to make a lasting contribution to the pipeline industry.
For an industry built on safety, capability, collaboration and shared knowledge, YPF has served a critical purpose. It has helped connect emerging professionals with experienced leaders, created spaces for technical and professional development, and supported the transfer of knowledge between generations.
This celebration is not only about looking back. It is about recognising the impact YPF has had and making sure the next 20 years continue to support the people who will help lead the industry through change.
A changing industry, a new generation of leaders
The pipeline and gas industry is operating in a period of significant change. Australia’s energy system is evolving, infrastructure is being asked to do more, and the sector continues to respond to the combined challenge of affordability, reliability and emissions reduction. APGA’s own strategic context recognises the need to help members navigate the energy transition, support industry capability and prepare for the future. (APGA)
In this environment, the role of young professionals is more important than ever.
The next generation of pipeliners will contribute to the future of gas infrastructure, renewable gases, hydrogen, carbon dioxide pipelines, safety, engineering, operations, construction, research, regulation and community engagement. They will need technical knowledge, judgement, confidence and the ability to work across disciplines.
YPF provides a place for that capability to grow.
Program focus: learning, leadership and legacy
The YPF 20-Year Celebration program will be built around learning, connection and reflection.
The day will bring together past and present YPF members, industry leaders, technical specialists and early-career professionals for a program that looks at where YPF has come from, where the industry is now, and what future professionals will need to carry the industry forward.
The program will include keynote reflections, technical and professional development sessions, panel discussions and opportunities for attendees to connect across generations of the YPF community.
