Goldfields Gas Pipeline
TABLE OF CONTENTS
The Goldfields Gas Pipeline (GGP) is a 1378km transmission pipeline that extends from Yarraloola, in the Pilbara region (NW Western Australia) to Kalgoorlie, in the Goldfields-Esperance region (SE Western Australia). The GGP delivers natural gas from Carnarvon Basin producers to customers along the length of the pipeline, primarily for use in electricity generation facilities associated with mining and minerals processing. The 47km Newman lateral, which supplies Alinta Energy’s Newman Power Station, is also part of the GGP.
The GGP is majority owned and operated by APA Group (through its wholly owned subsidiaries Southern Cross Pipelines Australia Pty Ltd and Southern Cross Pipelines (NPL) Australia Pty Limited). Alinta Energy also holds an 11.8 per cent interest in the pipeline. Construction of the GGP was completed in 1996.
The GGP interconnects with several laterals that are not part of the GGP itself, but which are also owned and operated by APA Group. These are: the 8km Wiluna Lateral; and laterals to Mt Keith (8km), Leinster (5km) and Kalgoorlie Power Station (8km). The GGP also interconnects with the Eastern Goldfields Pipeline System at Leonora and, at its southern extremity, the GGP connects with the Kalgoorlie to Kambalda Pipeline.
Some of the assets composing the GGP are subject to full regulation under the NGR while other GGP assets are considered to be a non-scheme pipeline under Part 23 of the NGR.
Those assets that are subject to full regulation include the entirety of the GGP mainline from Yarraloola to Kalgoorlie and the Newman Lateral. Those assets considered to be a non-scheme pipeline under Part 23 of the NGR consist of five compressor stations and two custody transfer meter stations.
