Joint Technical Committee Scholarship

This is APGA Joint Technical Meeting and Study Tour Scholarships - 2025

The Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) is pleased to announce the opportunity for members to attend the 24th Joint Technical Meeting (JTM) on Pipeline Research, scheduled for June 2–6, 2025, in San Diego, California. This biennial event, hosted by the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI), in collaboration with the European Pipeline Research Group (EPRG) and APGA, serves as a premier global platform for discussing advancements and challenges in the pipeline industry. This event will be followed by a study tour from the conclusion of the JTM to 13th June 2025.

JTM Event Highlights

  • Dates: June 2–6, 2025
  • Location: Loews Coronado Bay, 4000 Loews Coronado Bay Road, Coronado, California 92118
  • Keynote Address: "Fuelling the Future: AI at the Speed of Exponential Growth"
  • Focus Areas:
    • Emerging trends in new technologies, artificial intelligence, data utilisation, and innovation
    • Critical discussions with international industry leaders
    • Latest research and development in hydrogen (H₂) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) transportation and storage

This event offers an exceptional opportunity for professionals to enhance their industry knowledge, gain insights into cutting-edge research, and establish international connections across key pipeline and gas engineering disciplines. Attending the JTM will contribute to maintaining and advancing Australia's high-pressure pipeline industry's expertise and operational excellence.

Scholarship Details

APGA is offering five scholarships to attend and participate in the 2025 JTM. This experience will equip participants with:

  • Increased industry knowledge
  • A better understanding of leading-edge research
  • Valuable international contacts across key disciplines

What the Scholarship Covers

The scholarship will cover costs related to:

  • Accommodation during the event and study tour.
  • Transportation related to the study tour.
  • Meal allowances for the duration of the event.
  • JTM registration Fee and any other meeting related expenses.

The finer details of the scholarship disbursement and logistical arrangements will be discussed with the successful candidates as the study tour details are still being finalized.

Additional Costs & Sponsorship Requirements:

While the scholarship covers the outlined expenses, the recipient or their employer must cover:

  • International travel costs to and from the USA (arriving in San Diego, California and departing from Los Angelis, California)
  • Any additional expenses beyond the covered costs, such as extended accommodation, extra meals, personal expenses, or extended travel related to the study tour

Nominees are encouraged to seek financial support from their employer to assist with these additional costs as part of their professional development.

Study Tour

In addition to attending the JTM, scholarship recipients will participate in a post-event study tour until 13th June 2025 designed to deepen their understanding of pipeline operations and innovations in North America. This study tour will include (subject to availability of hosting companies):

  • Site visits to key pipeline infrastructure and technology facilities across the USA
  • Meetings with industry experts to discuss practical applications of research findings
  • Opportunities to observe real-world implementations of cutting-edge technologies discussed during the JTM

This extended experience will further enrich participants’ exposure to global best practices and provide valuable insights into the future of the pipeline industry.

Note:

The post-JTM study tour is still being finalised, and details regarding specific site visits and activities are subject to confirmation. Additionally, the final scholarship amounts will be determined and communicated in due course. Successful applicants will receive updated information as arrangements are confirmed.

Participation Details

  • Eligibility: Individuals under the age of 35 as of January 1, 2025, who have demonstrated interest and commitment to APGA’s research programs.
  • APGA and RSC Member: Candidates must be employed by an APGA and RSC member.
  • Nomination Deadline: Friday, March 21, 2025
  • Submission: Complete the nomination form with all relevant information, including:
    • A brief summary of qualifications and work experience, including APGA committee experience.
    • A statement of how the participant and employer would benefit from this opportunity.
    • Supporting statement by manager or company CEO/MD.
    • A statement detailing the applicant’s current participation in and/or commitment to future participation in APGA initiatives.
    • Any other relevant information.

Expectations Post-Event

Selected participants will be expected to:

  • Provide a written report outlining information gathered, lessons learned, and contacts made during the JTM.
  • Submit an article for publication in the Australian Pipeliner magazine or online through the APGA website.
  • Make a presentation at an agreed APGA public event or technical webinar, detailing the lessons learned from participation.

This initiative aligns with APGA's commitment to fostering the next generation of pipeline professionals by providing them with valuable international exposure and learning opportunities.
