APGA welcomes SA Government’s nation-leading SA Gas Initiative
The Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) welcome the SA Government’s Gas Initiative to support innovative projects that strengthen gas supply, capacity and storage to meet the state’s future energy needs.
As mainland Australia’s most renewable state, South Australia has consistently showed that gas remains an essential partner to renewables, providing firming, flexibility and reliability during periods of peak demand.
The initiative recognises that a balanced energy mix is critical to maintaining affordability and stability as renewable generation grows.
Importantly, by including biomethane and green hydrogen within the $17.5 million program’s scope, the initiative can help build a renewable gas market that cuts emissions while leveraging Australia’s existing world-class gas infrastructure to deliver lower-cost decarbonisation for households and industry.
APGA chief executive Steve Davies said South Australia continues to demonstrate that gas and renewables can and should go hand in hand, combining strong renewable ambition with practical energy policy.
“By supporting both conventional and renewable gas development, programs such as the SA Gas Initiative will help lower costs across the entire energy system,”Mr Davies said.
“This helps ensure households, manufacturers and small businesses all have the opportunity to share in the benefits of a secure, low-emissions energy future.”
APGA looks forward to engaging with the SA Government to ensure continued investment in safe, reliable and lower-emissions energy infrastructure.
