APGA welcomes vital next steps for the Territory Energy Link

Download Submission

The Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) warmly welcomes the NT Government’s commitment to further developing the Territory Energy Link that will connect the Beetaloo Basin to Darwin and begin the process of unlocking investment, job creation, and new industrial opportunities across northern Australia.

Importantly for Australia’s east coast, it also represents a vital step in ensuring gas developed in the BeetalooSub-basin can reach southern demand centres and help address long-term structural shortfalls in gas supply.

APGA chief executive Steve Davies says this nation-building project will open up the Beetaloo to market access, catalyze investment in gas and renewable hydrogen, and enable large-scale development in the NT.

“This is exactly the kind of enabling infrastructure Australia needs – long-term, future-focused and designed to deliver benefits to the Territory, and beyond,” Mr Davies said.

“Beetaloo gas has the potential to support both domestic and export markets, helping secure energy supply, lower emissions, and strengthening energy security and industrial competitiveness across the country.”

APGA also welcomed the project’s focus on corridor planning and multi-user access, which will allow it to serve a wide range of industries including gas, hydrogen, water and data services.

“The Energy Link corridor offers benefits well beyond the infrastructure projects it enables. It’s about unlocking new opportunities, connecting regions, and laying the foundations for growth,” Mr Davies said.

APGA looks forward to continuing its work with the Northern Territory Government and project partners to help bring the Territory Energy Link to life.
