A Standout Week for APGA in Brisbane
Brisbane was a hive of APGA activity, culminating in an incredibly well-attended Brisbane Dinner that brought members together for an evening of thoughtful industry discussion, valuable connections and strong engagement.
The dinner capped off a particularly busy period, with both the Women’s Leadership Development Forum and APGA’s new Case-Based Learning program taking place over the preceding two days. The result was a fantastic cross-section of the industry coming together, experienced leaders, emerging professionals, technical specialists and program participants, all contributing to the energy in the room.
An engaging industry perspective
The keynote address was delivered by Stephen Harty, Chief Executive Officer of GLNG, who provided members with a considered and engaging overview of the current industry landscape.
Stephen has led GLNG since 2019, with responsibility for the overall management, safety and operation of the project. With more than 25 years of experience in the energy sector, he has worked across operations, project development and marketing roles.
Stephen’s presentation offered both a positive and critical examination of the environment in which the industry is currently operating. He addressed the impact of government policy and the regulatory burden that can create barriers to investment, while also reinforcing the significant potential that continues to exist across the gas and pipeline sectors.
Importantly, the presentation did not overlook the challenges facing the industry. Instead, Stephen provided a balanced perspective that recognised the current constraints while maintaining a positive outlook on the opportunities ahead.
His knowledge of the market and direct experience engaging with policy and regulatory processes made for a highly relevant presentation.
Celebrating the Women’s Leadership Development Forum
It was also wonderful to welcome participants from the latest Women’s Leadership Development Program cohort to the dinner following two days of intensive training.
The Program provides participants with an opportunity to examine their leadership, careers, expectations and professional development in a deep and meaningful way. Their attendance brought another layer of energy to the evening and provided an opportunity to continue conversations, strengthen relationships and connect with the broader APGA membership.
After two demanding days of learning, reflection and discussion, it was fantastic to see the group participating so enthusiastically in the dinner and making the most of the opportunity to expand their industry networks.
Turning industry research into practical learning
APGA’s first delivery of the Case-Based Learning program also took place over the two days leading into the dinner.
The program represents an important step in translating decades of industry research into practical, real-world learning. Participants worked through industry scenarios designed to encourage discussion, critical thinking and the application of technical knowledge and professional judgement.
The strong participation in both the Case-Based Learning program and the Women’s Leadership Development Forum demonstrates the industry’s continued commitment to professional development, shared learning and building capability across the sector.
